Broadview School Council request for Volunteers

Broadview has a strong, vibrant school community, thanks in part to the amazing contribution of parents throughout the school year.  There are dozens of volunteer opportunities to suit all interests, talents and schedules, both during and outside of regular school hours. Opportunities range from larger multi-day events like the Book Bonanza in early May,  shorter half-day events such as the bike rodeo in the spring, to occasional small jobs, like helping out with the school photo days in the fall. Below, you can find a link to the Broadview School Council volunteer form, which includes a list and descriptions of all kinds of volunteer opportunities throughout the school year.  The volunteer coordinator will put you in touch with school staff or other parents who are organizing and running the various activities.Please don’t hesitate to contact the volunteer coordinator (volunteer@broadviewparents.org)  if you have any questions!  If you are interested in volunteering in your child’s classroom (including field trips), please contact your child’s teacher directly.

There are a variety of positions on school council with time commitments ranging from a few hours/month to a few hours/week. School council meets once/month and all parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Helping out in the school for a half or full day

School photo day

(early fall) help organize the students during photo day

Hepatitis, HPV Vaccinations

(several times/year) assist with coordinating students during the vaccinations, for a few hours during the day

Special events (variable time commitment from 1-2 hours to many hours)

Dance-a-thon

(November) help to collect prizes prior to the dance-a-thon; help to collect donations and keep a tally leading up to the dance-a-thon; assist during the day of the dance-a-thon

Book Bonanza (May)

assist with organizing books in the gym leading up to the book bonanza and/or help out during the book sale itself.

Harvest House (December)

help set up demo baskets and/or go to classrooms to give short presentations about Harvest House

Family Dance

(spring) sell raffle tickets during the dance; work at the canteen during the dance; help set up prior to the dance

Primary Play Day

(half-day in June) for grades 1-3; assist with games/running the event

Junior Sports Day

(half day in June) for grades 4-6; assist with games/running the event

Bike Rodeo

(spring, typically after school) assist with running activities (bike safety, bike maintenance, bike cleaning station etc)

Grade 8 Celebration

(grade 7 parents, spring) organize and host the grade 8 celebration luncheon at the end of the school year

Teacher Appreciation Lunch

(spring) bring in one of food, drinks, dishes, flowers for the luncheon

School council-run activities (ongoing)

Milk program

assist with organizing and running the daily milk program

Kilometer Club

(fall and spring) takes place every Friday; volunteers are needed to help marshall the route, to mark laps and to check in/out the students

Healthy Active Initiatives Committee

the committee organizes and runs events such as International Walk to School Week, Winter Walk Day, Healthy Active Week and other fun activities promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. Volunteers are also needed to help out at individual events.

Helping out in the school, 1-3 hours/month throughout the school year

Sports bags/equipment

coordinate with school staff to help provide extra sports equipment (especially for use at recess)

Bulletin boards

change the student artwork on the bulletin boards periodically throughout the school year (artwork provided by the teachers)

Library

assist the librarian as needed throughout the year

Help with the Broadview PS garden

help with the maintenance of the school garden

Lost and Found

help tidy and sort items in the lost and found throughout the school year
